Valletta Knights secure victory in the BOV Amateur League Knock-Out Competition 2026
Valletta Knights emerged triumphant in the BOV Amateur League Knock-Out Competition 2026, winning the final played on the 10 February 2026. This year’s edition formed part of the wider BOV Basketball Knock-Out programme, which ran between the 30th January and the 10th February 2026, and featured eight competing teams in the intense single elimination format.
The final delivered an exciting spectacle of emerging basketball talent, with Valletta sealing the title after defeating the Luxol Neo 87-74 in a hard fought contest.
Both teams opened with intensity, trading baskets in a tight first three minutes that saw Luxol edge ahead 6–5. Valletta responded and briefly took an 11–10 lead at the six minute mark, but Luxol struck back through Goc and a strong drive by Iloube to move ahead 14–11. Valletta closed the quarter with a late surge, finishing the opening session up 21–16.
In the second quarter, Valletta threatened to break the game open, stretching their advantage to double digits. Luxol refused to fold, chipping away until they cut the deficit to 37–33. A composed finish by Goc, a basket plus a free throw brought Luxol within a single point at 37–36. The half ended level at 48–48, setting up a tense second act.
In the third quarter, Valletta came out of the break with renewed purpose. A quick burst pushed them ahead 57–50, highlighted by a basket and a three pointer from Joshua Reding. Luxol stayed within reach at 59–55 midway through the quarter, but Valletta’s firepower resurfaced. Acrie Jr delivered back to back baskets to extend the lead to 66–55, and Valletta closed the period firmly in control at 70–59.
Luxol needed a strong start in the last quarter to mount a comeback, but Valletta kept their foot on the gas. Within three minutes the lead had grown to 78–66. Luxol battled on, narrowing the gap to 82–72 with 2:30 remaining, but Valletta’s composure and scoring balance ensured there would be no late drama. The final buzzer sounded with Valletta securing an 87–74 win and the knockout title.
Following the the BOV Amateur League Knock-Out Trophy was officially presented to the winners by Ernest Agius, Chief Operations Officer at Bank of Valletta, together with Paul Sultana, President of the Malta Basketball Association.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the BOV Amateur League Knockout final was selected by a panel of sports journalists. Valletta’s Alexander Miletic was the best performing player of the final and was presented with the coveted BOV MVP Trophy to honouring his significantly contributions in the final. His 27 points including 5 treys were a substantial contribution to his team’s victory
