Pieta Hotspurs win first ever edition of the BOV Challenge Cup
Pieta Hotspurs etched their name in history by winning the first-ever edition of the BOV Challenge Cup. In a thrilling final held at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali, Pieta secured a narrow 1-0 victory over BOV Challenge League Champions Valletta FC.
The BOV Challenge Cup is a new competition from the long term collaboration between Bank of Valletta and the Malta Football Association where all the teams in the BOV Challenge League compete in a knockout format, with Pieta emerging unbeaten and lifting the BOV Challenge Cup trophy.
Pieta started on the offence and took the initiative in the first minutes however it was Valletta who had 2 scoring chances in the first half but were denied by Cini and the woodwork with the teams going for the break on 0-0 scoreline. Zean Leonardi broke the stalemate in the 52 minute and continued to control the match and deny Valletta’s comeback in the last minutes of the game to emerge victorious.
Stefan Abela, CSR Manager at Bank of Valletta, and Matthew Paris, Vice President of the Malta Football Association, presented the BOV Challenge Cup trophy to Pieta amidst the jubilation of the loyal Pieta fans at the Centenary Stadium.
This victory not only celebrates Pieta’s triumph but also underscores the successful collaboration between Bank of Valletta and the Malta Football Association in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among the Maltese population and creating new competitions for the delight of the teams and the supporters alike.
