The anticipation surrounding the BOV Tazza l-Kbira reached new heights as the owners of this year’s finalists gathered for the official draw of starting numbers ahead of the prestigious final scheduled for the 12th April 2026. The annual draw ensures a fair and transparent allocation of starting positions, an essential element in race strategy for Malta’s most historic and distinguished trotting competition.
The draw was conducted in the presence of Malta Equidrome CEO Dr Matthew Brincat, BOV Head of CSR Charles Azzopardi, Malta Racing Club Vice President Tony Demanuele, and EquestriMalta Chairman Dean Hili, underscoring the importance of collaboration in strengthening the sport and enhancing the race-day experience for thousands of enthusiasts.
Dr Brincat highlighted the high calibre of this year’s competition. ‘After a fiercely contested qualifying phase, 12 exceptional horses made it through to the final from an initial line up of 63 contenders. We now look forward to an unforgettable event that blends tradition, passion, and sporting excellence.’
Mr Azzopardi reaffirmed Bank of Valletta’s commitment to local sport. “BOV’s long-standing support for the Tazza l-Kbira reflects our belief in championing national traditions and nurturing excellence. We eagerly await another thrilling edition and extend our best wishes to all participants.”
This year’s final promises a vibrant programme for families and racing fans alike, that includes ‘Leoni Reali’ a team of flag throwers from Sicily. The Annual Parade prior to the final will be led by 2025 BOV Tazza l-Kbira winner ‘Dats so Cool’ Italy while the presentation of the drivers and owners will be held on different types of horse drawn carriages and Karozzini.
