Hudo du Ruel, driven by Rodney Gatt, captured the prestigious BOV Tazza l Kbira 2026 following a superb performance in one of Malta’s most eagerly anticipated trotting events. The race was held on Sunday, 12 April, at the Malta Equidrome.
Contested in the Premier Class over the demanding distance of 2,640 metres, the race brought together a strong field of leading contenders, all vying for the most coveted title in the local trotting calendar. In a thrilling finale, Hudo du Ruel delivered a remarkable display of form, clocking a new national record average time of 1’11”9 per kilometre, while maintaining his unbeaten record since arriving on the island.
The nine year old French gelding crossed the finish line with a substantial advantage over Rampant, driven by Cherise Farrugia, who finished second. Forbach, driven by Redent Magro, secured third place.
Sponsored by Bank of Valletta, the BOV Tazza l Kbira once again confirmed its status as the highlight of Malta’s equestrian sporting calendar, attracting top quality participants and drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd to the Equidrome.
Following the race, the prestigious trophy was presented to Hudo du Ruel’s owner, Christian Caruana, and driver Rodney Gatt by Kenneth Farrugia, Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Valletta, and Dr Matthew Brincat, Chairman of Malta Equidrome, in the presence of Dr Clifton Grima, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation.
