Hibernians FC celebrated an outstanding performance at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali, defeating Ħamrun Spartans FC 2-1 to lift the BOV Super Cup 2026. The Super Cup—an annual contest between the Maltese Premier League champions and FA Trophy holders—once again delivered a high quality spectacle that showcased the intensity, passion, and technical strength of Maltese football.
With this triumph, Hibernians claim their fifth Super Cup title, reinforcing their long standing stature as one of Malta’s most competitive and respected football clubs. Their disciplined display, tactical control, and determination were central to securing this prestigious victory.
Hamrun struck first from the penalty spot in the 25th minute, when Emerson Marcelina converted confidently to give the Spartans an early advantage. The goal settled Hamrun, who managed the tempo well for long stretches, limiting Hibernians’ ability to create clear chances.
Hibernians grew into the match after the break and were rewarded for their persistence. In the 81st minute, they earned a penalty of their own, which Miuller dispatched to level the score. The equaliser shifted momentum, with Hibs pushing for a late winner, but Hamrun held firm to force extra time.
The additional 30 minutes were marked by narrow escapes and rising tension. Hibernians came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock early in the second half of extra time, striking the upright in what was their best chance of the period.
Just when penalties seemed inevitable, the match produced a decisive moment. In the second minute of injury time at the end of extra time, Kevin Halabaku unleashed a long range strike that found the net, sealing a dramatic late winner.
The goal sparked celebrations among the Hibernians supporters, as they claimed the BOV Super Cup in the most dramatic fashion.
After the final whistle, the BOV Super Cup trophy was formally presented to Hibernians FC by Ernest Agius, Chief Operations Officer at Bank of Valletta, alongside Bjorn Vassallo, President of the Malta Football Association, in a ceremony that highlighted the significance of the occasion within Maltese football.
