Ernest John Agius was appointed BOV's Chief Operations Officer, in May 2016. He is currently responsible for the Bank's Administration Function (which includes Corporate Real Estate, Facilities’ Management, Security and Health & Safety), Procurement, Property Projects and Architects' Services, Investment Operations, Custody and Correspondent Banking, Centralised Operations (including Cash and Cheque Management, Offsite ATMs, SWIFT and SEPA Payments' Processing, Reconciliations and Process Efficiency Team), Corporate Social Responsibility, Digital Imaging Scanning and Archiving Unit and Business Continuity, Outsourcing and ESG Unit.
Mr Agius joined Bank of Valletta in 2015 as Change Management Executive with the specific target of setting up a Change Management Function aiming to implement the Core Banking System in January 2020.
Mr Agius’s career in the financial services sector spans more than 38 years during which he has held a number of senior executive positions within the business, migrating customers to digital channels and IT. He has vast experience in banking operations and financial crime compliance.
He has led major transformation projects involving complex technology, automation and de-risking.
Mr Agius has been a member of the Executive Committee since June 2016, member of the Change Management Committee, the Internal Control & Risk Management Committee, Product Governance and Pricing Committee, Change Management Committee and the Incident Management Team, since January 2020. Mr Agius also sits on the Board of Churchwharf Properties Limited and is the Chairperson of the BOV Sports and Social Club.
