Safe Travels with BOV

BOV Cards Travel Tips

Whether you’re off on a weekend break  or a long haul trip to an exotic country, unfortunate incidents can happen. Some basic preparation and a little bit of forethought can go a long way to spare you unnecessary trouble and alleviate possible nerve-racking situations.

Here are some card related, simple safety tips, for better and stress-free adventures:

QAdvise your Bank of your travel plans to ensure that your card payments are monitored accordingly for possible fraudulent activities.

Q Before you travel, validate your PIN by effecting a balance enquiry at your Bank’s ATM.  No harm in checking that your cards and PINs are fully functional.

Q If you need a new PIN, contact your Bank ahead of your departure so that you receive it well in time.

Q Check the expiry date of your cards. If any of your BOV cards are due to expire prior to your departure or during your trip, order a replacement through your branch or BOV Internet Banking.

Q Make copies of your passport or identity card and email an electronic copy to yourself. Should your documents be stolen or lost, you will save yourself a lot of hassle.

Q Don’t keep all your money and cards in one place – use separate bags, pockets or wallets.

Q Don’t make it easy for pickpockets, do not keep anything in your back pocket and keep your bag at the front.

Q Protect yourself through insurance.  People tend to believe that no mishaps will happen to them, but when it does, an insurance policy can help ease difficulties.  The BOV premium cards come with a standard travel insurance free of charge.  Check the travel policy booklet on bov.com to view what is covered before your departure (policy terms, conditions, restrictions and exclusions apply).

Q Be a savvy traveller and take more than one card with you.  You are spoilt for choice with the BOV suite of cards.  If the main card ends up being suspended, stolen or missing, a backup card could be your saviour.

Q Remember you can also use a debit international card such as the BOV Cashlink Visa when you are abroad.

Q Immediately report a lost or stolen card to your Bank.  A BOV Card may be reported on 21234821.

Q Shield the input device every time you key in your PIN, whether you are paying for your metro ticket, paying for items of clothing at a point of sale or withdrawing money from an ATM.

Some planning ahead will help you enjoy your holiday in a safer way.  Now just take the plunge and board that plane!
