From cute and furry to peculiar looking, Malta manages to host a variety of animals that have made the islands their home for thousands of years despite its small size.
Bank of Valletta’s annual Calendar has become synonymous with highlighting an aspect of Malta that is slowly disappearing, from street games to traditional foods and trades to name a few.
‘In harmony with Nature throughout the Ages’ is the theme of the Bank’s Calendar for 2019. With the fast pace of modern life, it is easy to forget the fact that the animal has played a very important role in human history. The protagonists of this whole calendar have helped in the development of civilizations by providing muscle for hard work, with food or providing friendly company that was often indispensable in support their owner in difficult times.
To weave this collection of photos, the Bank’s PR & Marketing Team and photographer Joseph P Smith took to the paths of some of Malta’s and Gozo’s farms. The animals took centre-stage in their environment complete with rubble walls, native trees and the outstanding beauty of the Maltese islands. The expressions on the faces of the owners, who appear together with their animals, testify to the affection and sense of satisfaction gained by breeding these animals.Click here to download a copy of the BOV Calendar for 2019
