Bank of Valletta supports the annual Din l-Art Ħelwa Marine Photographic Competition
Bank of Valletta is supporting this year’s edition of Din l-Art Ħelwa’s Marine Photographic Competition. Each year Din l-Art Ħelwa organises this competition as part of the organisation’s Blue Campaign, in its aim to raise awareness about the importance of safeguarding the beauty and state of the coastline and surrounding waters of the Maltese Islands.
This year’s edition will consist of two categories - Category A will relate to photos of sea pollution and any negative impacts caused by human activity on the local marine environment, whilst Category B will consist of photos showing the beauty of the underwater life around Malta and Gozo. Cash prizes will be awarded to first and second place winners from both categories.
“It is our duty to convey the message that society as a whole is not doing enough to protect our marine and coastal environment for future generations,” said Prof Alex Torpiano, Executive President of Din l-Art Ħelwa. “This year we decided to show society two different aspects of the marine environment. One is that of the appreciative and aesthetically pleasing underwater life, while the other will portray the human impact on our marine environment.”
“We always receive an encouraging response from participants to our annual Marine Photographic Competition,” said Dr Stanley Farrugia Randon, council member at Din l-Art Ħelwa. Each year the competition serves as an educational initiative, attracting the interest of participants from diving schools, photography enthusiasts and those who have the environment at heart. “We would like to thank Bank of Valletta for supporting this initiative, as their help will be instrumental to better deliver the key message behind this competition.”
“We are proud to be supporting this initiative as through the participants’ snapshots, we shall be seeing the beauty of the underwater environment around our Islands but at the same time it will bring to the forefront the impact of human activity and behaviour on the environment that surrounds us,” said Charles Azzopardi, Executive CSR & Communication at Bank of Valletta. The Bank has recently embarked on a journey to align its Community Relations programme to an ESG vision, to accelerate sustainability in both its CSR ventures as well as its suite of products. “Among other UN Sustainable Development Goals, ‘Life below Water’ is one goal we’re giving fundamental importance to. By supporting this year’s Din l-Art Ħelwa Marine Photographic Competition, we are backing this hardworking organisation in its ongoingly Blue Campaign.”
