BOV Water Polo Players of the Month – August 2020
18 Sep 2020
Neptunes’ bomber Stevie Camilleri is the BOV Water Polo Premier League Player of the Month for August 2020. Ta’ Xbiex’s Mark Carani and Valletta’s Niki Lanzon shared the award for the BOV First Division while Exiles’ Elena Borg won the first edition of this award for the Women’s League.

Stevie Camilleri was topping the Italian Serie A’s scoring sheet with 48 goals when the league was cancelled during due to the COVID19 pandemic. The break does not seem to have effected the Neptunes’ stalwart as he scored no less than 27 goals in 6 matches for his team during August to land the award.

Mark Carani and Niki Lanzon shared the award for the BOV 1st Division League obtaining equal points in the classification. Youngster Carani is a very powerful player. A product of the Sliema academy, he is an asset to the Ta’ Xbiex side scoring important goals against higher quoted opponents. Niki Lanzon, who moved from Neptunes to Valletta at the end of last season is showing no signs of slowing down. His experience is proving crucial in the Valletta team who are leading the BOV 1st Division Table.

BOV and the ASA introduced the Women’s monthly award, which went to Exiles’ Elena Borg. Elena was instrumental in leading Exiles to 3 straight wins against Sirens, Sliema and San Giljan in the BOV Women’s league.

Charles Azzopardi, Executive PR and Marketing at Bank of Valletta presented a commemorative plaque to all four winners observing social distancing regulations.
