Mr. James Grech is a distinguished professional with over 25 years of experience in the banking sector, including 15 years as a Non-Executive Director. He began his career as a Management Accountant and joined Bank of Valletta (BOV) in 1998, where he has held various significant roles. From 2004 to 2008, he served as a Director representing workers’ interests. In December 2014, he was re-elected to the Board of Directors through the shareholders’ Annual General Meeting and continues to hold this position to date.
Throughout his tenure at BOV, Mr. Grech has actively participated in several committees, including the Asset and Liability Committee, Compliance Committee, Credit Committee, and Risk Management Committee. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the BOV Employees’ Foundation. Additionally, he played a crucial role as a member of the European Banking Federation Correspondent banking task force, leveraging his expertise in Correspondent Banking thereby strengthening BOV’s position in the international banking community.
Beyond his contributions to BOV, Mr. Grech has demonstrated strong leadership in other sectors. He served as Chairman of Malta Industrial Parks and currently holds the position of Chairman of Gozo Channel (Holding) Co. Ltd. Additionally, he serves as a director in a number of local companies, showcasing his wide-ranging expertise.
Mr. Grech possesses a wealth of knowledge and expertise in Corporate Governance. He holds an Honours Degree in Management and a Master’s in Business Administration from Henley Management College, UK. Notably, his Master’s dissertation in 2006 focused on the effectiveness of Board performance and Corporate Governance.
In addition to his professional roles, Mr. Grech is a respected educator. He has lectured on Financial Services at the Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology, and on Corporate Governance at the University of Malta.
