Neptunes WPSC’s Stevie Camilleri is the BOV Water Polo Premier Division player of the year for 2016. With an astounding 61 goals in 17 matches, Camilleri led Neptunes to the BOV Water Polo Premier League title in 2016, beating favorites San Giljan in a match that saw him score 4 goals. With this sixth ‘Player of the Year’ award, Stevie has overtaken Marco Manara’s haul of 5 awards becoming the most decorated athlete in Malta’s water polo history.
Exiles SC’s Elena Borg won the BOV Women’s Player of the Year Award. Elena was Exiles’ and the league’s top scorer with 24 goals in 7 matches while also being the top scorer in the EU Nations Cup held in Denmark in April 2016.
Michele Mifsud (Ta’ Xbiex ASC) captured the award for the BOV Men’s First Division. Andreas Galea and Darren Zammit, both playing for San Giljan ASC won the awards for the U/20 and U/17 competitions respectively. Neptunes WPSC players Nikolai Zammit and Jake Muscat won the award for the U/15 and U/13 leagues.
Anthony Scicluna, Chief Officer at Bank of Valletta and Joe Caruana Curran, President of the Aquatic Sports Association presented the award to the winners. Stevie Camilleri and Elena Borg could not be present due to their commitments beyond our shores.
