BOV Water Polo Championships to Commence on 7th June

The BOV Water Polo National Championships will kick off on the 7th of June and will see 12 teams, the largest number in many years competing for the main titles. This was stated by Joe Caruana Curran, President of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta during a press conference also addressed by Joseph Agius, Chief Technology Officer at Bank of Valletta.

‘Following the disruptions of the past two years, we are delighted to open the doors to the teams’ loyal supporters right from the start, in a season that we are hoping will be the last one without foreign players,’ continued Caruana Curran. ‘The season will commence with the preliminary round to determine which teams qualify for the BOV Premier Division and First Division League, with the Knockouts commencing after the preliminary round on the 5th of July, with the Finals being played on the 3rd August. The Leagues will finish off in a best-of-3 playoff final that will be played between the 13th and the 20th of August.’

‘We take this opportunity to thank Bank of Valletta for supporting our competitions for the 15th straight year, and following the close competition seen during the BOV Winter League, with both divisions requiring a decider, we should be in for a very interesting and competitive season,’ concluded the ASA President.

‘Sport forms an integral part of the Bank’s investment back into the community in which it operates as part of its ESG commitments,’ said Mr Agius. ‘Over these last 15 years of our collaboration with the ASA, we have seen a marked improvement in the level of play which has also resulted in Malta achieving positive results on the international scene. We take this opportunity to wish the best of luck to all participating teams and thank the whole water polo community for their support of the game.’
