Bank of Valletta helps 6,000 children experience nature during the scholastic year
09 Jul 2018
During the scholastic year that has just drawn to a close, nearly 6,000 children and young people experienced nature education through Dinja Waħda. This is BirdLife Malta’s educational programme for primary schools, and Bank of Valletta is the educational partner of this programme.

BirdLife Malta looks after a number of beautiful nature reserves. Its friendly experts inspire children to understand and enjoy being outdoors and get up close with all wildlife from bugs to birds. These experiences are vital in laying the foundations for and nurture a lifelong love of nature.

Last year, 88 schools participated in Dinja Waħda Action Guide - a booklet of activities about wildlife for teachers. In addition, close to 1,000 Year 4 students received children’s magazine Il-Ħuttafa. This magazine is full of fun facts, stories and tips for spotting wildlife.

The reach of the programme and the extent of the impact achieved would not have been possible without the dedicated support of the Dinja Waħda coordinators. 122 teachers actively volunteer their time to coordinate the Dinja Waħda nature activities in their schools. To thank them for their enthusiasm and effort, a number of events were organised. These included Training on Outdoor Learning, Networking Outdoor Sessions, Seminars, a Shearwater boat trip as well as the Awards ceremony.

BirdLife Malta Education Manager Sarah Brady said: “We are delighted that Bank of Valletta has made this wonderful achievement possible, it is so important that children have the opportunity to enjoy wildlife in its natural setting”.

Speaking about the Bank’s involvement as an educational partner of the Dinja Waħda programme, Charles Azzopardi, Executive PR & Marketing at Bank of Valletta said, “For us, the green stakeholder is on a par with the other stakeholders. Furthermore, we deem our responsibility towards the environment as key to our Corporate Responsibility. We believe that supporting the Dinja Waħda programme is an investment in our children and the environment they find growing up.”
