BOV Player of the Month
24 Oct 2022

Gżira United forward Jefferson de Assis has been selected as the BOV Player of the Month for August and September 2022, achieving the first individual awards of the current football season.

The 27-year-old Brazilian forward amassed a total of six goals during this period, netting three braces against Santa Lucija, Gudja United and Hibernians respectively.

The Brazilian, born in Porto Alegre, commenced his personal experience in the local football scene in 2017 when he joined Sliema Wanderers, and subsequently had a short spell in Gozo with Nadur Youngsters, before joining Gżira United in 2019. In January 2020, he joined Fujairah SC in the UAE pro league on a six month loan deal, and returned to Gżira for the following season.

Jefferson was on fire in Gzira’s first match of the season scoring twice en route to their 3-1 win. Trailing Gudja by two goals, De Assis reduced the deficit by heading a Clive Gauci cross from close range, and following a Maia goal bringing both teams level, Jefferson headed Jackson Mendoza’s freekick home for a 3-2 lead prior to Gudja saving a point by equalising five minutes from time.

Gzira took home the valuable 3 points against Hibernians where Jefferson scored both goals in their 2-1 victory, in a match where he was also voted as the BOV Player of the Match.

Priscilla Attard, Manager of Bank of Valletta’s Gżira Branch, presented the BOV Player of the Month Trophies for August and September 2022 to de Assis who chose Caritas Malta to benefit from the donation associated with this award.

Bank of Valletta’s views on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) dimensions continue to evolve with the Bank promoting Good Health and Well Being through its support of various sports activities across the islands.
