Champions set new records
Sue Abela and Mark Spiteri are the new BOV Bowling Senior National Champions 2018.
Sue Abela was a runaway winner in the Ladies section having already built an unassailable lead from day one. Despite not facing any stiff completion, Abela concentrated on her game to keep mounting points and ended with a new national record for ladies, with an exceptional 1415 series in the first round. This was no coincidence as Sue Abela had another great year, winning the Malta Open tournament earlier this year and among other awards. Marthese Cossai claimed second place, chased by Liliana Spiteri who was participating in her first seniors event.
The Male section proved to be more competitive with Mark Spiteri facing stiff competition from Paul Gray and Dennis Mercieca who placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. It was Spiteri who emerged as champion with his 2753 scratch series going down as the highest series played in the senior category. A demonstration of the strength of the participating field is the fact that 6th placed Steve Cassar played well over a 200 average.
Ernest Agius, Chief Officer and Bank of Valletta and Paul Baldacchino, President of the Malta Ten Pin Bowling Association presented the awards to the champions.
Bank of Valletta is the one of the main supporters of the Malta Ten Pin Bowling Association and a major supporter of sporting initiatives on the Maltese Islands
