BOV Basketball Players of the Month – November 2018

Joseph Tagarelli (Starlites) wins BOV 1st Division Award
Patricia Arguello (Starlites) lands Women’s Award
Nathan Xuereb (Athleta) with BOV Amateur League Award 

Starlites 6’5” forward Joseph Tagarelli is the BOV Basketball Men’s 1st Division Player of the Month. The American from Bayside. Wisconsin, in his first season playing in Malta put his name in the spotlight scoring no less than 95 points during November with 32 baskets, 19 free-throws and 4 three-pointers made. He also wreaked havoc on the opposing defence attracting 5.25 fouls per game played (21 fouls in 4 games). 

Starlites’ Patricia Arguello topped the 3-pointer list for November with 12 from 31 attemps, en-route to her 65 points during the month. Hailed as one of the most complete players to grace Malta’s female basketball, she is averaging 11.88 rebounds and 3.38 steals per game this season. 

Gzira Athleta’s Nathan Xuereb won the award for BOV Amateur League. The youngster who turns 17 in December 2018 was the most utilized player by his team and in the league playing an average of 35.05 minutes per game. With 70 points to his credit during the month, he also suffered an average of 4.50 fouls per game (17 fouls in 4 games). 

Stefan Abela, Community Officer at Bank of Valletta presented a commemorative plaque to the players for winning the award. 

Bank of Valletta is Malta’s foremost supporter of sporting initiatives and can trace back its relationship with the Malta Basketball Association back to the 1970s.
