BOV Basketball Leagues return in November
27 Oct 2022

The Bank of Valletta Basketball Competitions make their return during the first week of November, with 12 teams competing between the BOV Basketball 1st Division League and the BOV Basketball Amateur League.

Paul Sultana, President of the Malta Basketball Association and Stefan Abela, Manager, CSR at Bank of Valletta addressed a press conference giving details of the upcoming season. The fixtures for the BOV Basketball Knockout competitions were drawn during this press conference.

Speaking during the event, the MBA President said, ‘We are seeing increased interest in the game of Basketball, with more teams participating in the competitions, especially in the youth category which augurs well for the future of the sport. This results in more game time, which in turn improves the players’ fundamentals, speed and level of play.’

‘The BOV Basketball competitions this year will be a showcase for the local players who are working hard to earn their spot in the National Team that will represent Malta in the Games of the Small States of Europe that in 2023 will be held in Malta,’ continued Mr Sultana. ‘We will continue to stream all games on the MBA’s YouTube Channel however we take this opportunity to urge the fans to come support their favorite team at the Basketball Pavilion in Ta’ Qali, to enjoy the atmosphere present and be part of Malta’s basketball family.’.

‘Seeing the largest number of teams competing in the BOV Basketball Competitions for many years makes us proud of our commitment towards the Malta Basketball Association,’ said Stefan Abela. ‘BOV’s support of sporting activities across the Islands stems from our firm belief that sports is beneficial for physical and mental health as part of its ESG commitments.’
