BOV supports Gozo Branch of the English Speaking Union of Malta
22/06/2010

Bank of Valletta is one of the main sponsors of the Gozo Branch of the English Speaking Union (ESU) of Malta. The ESU is an international educational charity dedicated to promoting international understanding and human achievement through English.

The Gozo Branch of the ESU was launched during an official ceremony held at the Ministry for Gozo and addressed by The Hon Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, - the Lord Watson of Richmond, Chairman Emeritus of the ESU International Council,  Martin Scicluna, Chairman of the ESU of Malta, and Mr Joe Grech, Chairman of the Gozo Branch.

Addressing those present, Dr Michael Refalo said “The Maltese language is part of our national identity and should never be replaced by any other language. However, the English Language has become the international language all around the world and the ESU promotes colder ties between English speaking people.”

Commenting on the launch, Jack Thewma, Manager of Bank of Valletta’s Gozo Branch highlighted the importance of having mastery of the English Language. “Bank of Valletta supports various educational initiatives and we augur the Gozo Branch of the ESU to achieve the success in Gozo as in other countries where it is present”.

The ceremony was concluded with the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the ESU Branches of Malta and Gozo and the hand-over of the ESU flag and the reading of winning essays submitted in a competition for Gozitan Students.
