Bank of Valletta supports Fibonacci Skies
17/06/2010

Bank of Valletta is supporting Fibonacci Skies, an exhibition featuring 88 acrylic paintings by artist Jeni Caruana. This exhibition is on display at Opus 64 Galerie in Sliema.

The 88 paintings all depict the theme of the sky and the sea from the same viewpoint but at different times, light and weather conditions and are arranged in clusters representing the Fibonacci series. This is the numerical series, discovered in the 12th century by Leonardo Fibonacci, that starts with 1 and increases by the sum of the two preceding numbers.

Edward Muscat Azzopardi, Head Marketing at Bank of Valletta met the artist at the gallery and said “At Bank of Valletta we’re delighted to support this exhibition, unique and unprecedented in so many ways. It takes a novel approach to the Fibonacci series, one that is very personal and meaningful to Ms Caruana.”

Thanking Bank of Valletta for its support, Ms Caruana said “This series of paintings emerged from a period when I had really lost my way on many different levels. I found comfort in painting the taut balance of the horizon between the constantly changing effects of light and weather on the same simple view.  The Fibonacci sequence happened accidentally but became deeply meaningful when I realised that this numbering system, which is repeated throughout the natural world as the perfect rate of outward growth, was also relevant to my own experience. There is something innately peaceful but very powerful about this series.”

The exhibition is open to the public until the 5th July 2010.
