Siggiewi Mixeghla sponsored by BOV
30/03/2010

Bank of Valletta is supporting the traditional Mixeghla in Siggiewi, an event organised by the Siggiewi Local Council that will see the entire footpath leading up to the ‘Salib tal-Gholja’ lit up with hundreds of candles and lights on the night between Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

This initiative was originated in 1993, when 70 manually-manufactured candles were placed along the footpath leading to the ‘Salib tal-Gholja’. The initiative proved very popular with many visitors, and over the years the event has grown to include the lighting of the Siggiewi side of the hill, the church parvis and the rooftops of houses surrounding the parish square.

Patricia Cutajar, Manager of Bank of Valletta’s Branch in Siggiewi presented the Bank’s sponsorship to Jesmond Tanti, organiser of the Mixeghla in the presence of Nicholas Baldacchino, Executive Secretary of the Siggiewi Local Council.

“Bank of Valletta prides itself in being at the forefront in supporting local communities and views its role as going beyond the provision of financial services. Through our support we seek to foster a strong link with the community and are delighted to be associated with an initiative that is closely linked with Maltese traditions and culture”, said Ms Cutajar.
