Bank of Valletta Supports Speech-Language Department
16/03/2010

Bank of Valletta is supporting the Speech-Language Department in setting up an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Clinic, through the purchase of specialised AAC devices that are very much in need by the department.

The aim of the Speech-Language Department is to obtain a broad selection of devices that cater for a wide variety of unique needs of users, as well as provide training for users, their families and other communication partners. Augmentative and Alternative Communication refers to those methods of communication that reinforce residual communication abilities and provide users with alternative means of communication when speech is not an efficient mode of communication.

Karl Spiteri, Marketing Manager at Bank of Valletta presented a range of AAC devices to Dr Rita Micallef, Manager of the Speech Language Department. “Bank of Valletta maintains a very strong social presence through its extensive Community Programme. The Bank recognises that its role within society goes beyond the provision of pure financial services. By regularly supporting initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of persons with special requirements, such as those carried out by the Speech-Language Department, the Bank makes a tangible contribution towards the communities it serves. We commend the good work being carried out by the Speech-Language Department and are glad to be making a positive contribution to these efforts”, said Mr Spiteri.

Thanking Bank of Valletta for its support Dr Micallef said ”it is indeed encouraging to obtain assistance from private enterprises such as Bank of Valletta. The Speech-Language Department strives to continuously improve its service offering and the AAC Clinic represents the latest milestone in achieving this. We intend to take the Clinic from strength to strength and are thrilled with this encouraging first step.”
